Dr. So Rin Kim started working as counseling faculty in the Department of Education Sciences and Professional Programs since 2020. She holds a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from the Pennsylvania State University, an M.A. in Counseling, and a B.A. in Education and English Education from Korea University.
Dr. Kim is a national certified counselor, and has worked as a clinical mental health counselor and career counselor both in the US and South Korea since 2012.
At UMSL, Dr. Kim teaches courses in Helping Relationship Skills, Theories of Counseling, Psychopathology and Diagnosis, and Foundations of Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
Her research agenda includes resilience of the underrepresented populations, neuroscience in counseling, individuals with international backgrounds, and counselor education. Dr. Kim specializes in quantitative research methods and has contributed multiple studies using diverse statistical methods, including MANOVA, linear regression, logistic regression, path analysis, structural equation modeling, and multilevel modeling.
